RMM Acronym

ITarian is an open source remote monitoring and management (rmm) program designed for MSP professionals. It makes their jobs easier and comes with an excellent set of modules and helpful add-on modules are available. However, many times you'll see the rmm acronym (instead of "remote monitoring and management") when referring to this platform. We all know it's simpler and quicker to use an abbreviation of a term instead of the actual term, but why is that? Let's look a little closer at the world of acronyms to discover more about them.

Although it may be interesting to learn about brevity, is it relative to ITarian software and MSP businesses? The answer is a definite yes! Why? Because the reason behind the entire open source software project (which is now called ITarian) was to take something long and drawn out and bring it under the command of one program. How many times have you texted someone and hit the wrong key by mistake? If you use a stylus it helps but even then, typing out a text message can be real ordeal at times. Thankfully, there are a lot of terms (like the rmm acronym we use constantly), which helps make texting easier. Let's look at a typical text message with and without those helpful little acronyms, to demonstrate our point.

"For your eyes only! As far as I can remember, the frequently asked questions list you requested is not available. However, I will check with the tech to see if a list is in the archives, and get back to you by the end of the business day. I know you are busy so there is no need to respond. Thank you very much, John."

Now let's take the same text and simplify it with abbreviations:

"FYEO. AFAIR the FAQ is NA. But will check with the tech 2 C if it's in the archives, and contact you by EOBD. TYVM John."

Like it or not, the mobile device phenomenon is here to stay and it is growing by the day. So, it makes sense to use the rmm acronym and many others as we can, to get through our busy days. This can simplify communications in a PSA RMM operation or any other business.
