Service desk vs Help desk

Service Desk is an IT industry which was coined only recently and it refers to a helpdesk which solves IT related user queries. For example, request for fixing a crashed computer, request for fixing a crashed printer, request for network maintenance etc., Whereas Helpdesk is a term was has been in existence for a long time and it refers to any helpdesk - not just IT related activities - which is responsible for assisting users or people. For example, a helpdesk at a tradeshow for guiding the visitors, helpdesk at a hotel's reception etc., This is the basic difference between a Service Desk and a Helpdesk.
