Difference Between Service Desk and Desktop Support

Service Desk software deal with IT Service Management. IT Service Management (known popularly as ITSM) is the system of providing or managing IT Service (like maintaining computers, networks, managing the entire IT infrastructure etc.,) to the network users. Whereas Desktop support is just one aspect of the various topics or categories which IT Service Management (ITSM) covers which is provided by Service Desk software.

For example, fixing a computer or installing a software, can be termed as Desktop Support. Whereas other tasks like network maintenance, maintaining a group of printers usually falls under the broader concept of IT Service Management (ITSM). Simple put, Desktop Support is a part of various services offered by the Service Desk software.
